The Story of Ferdinand - Carter G. Woodson Elementary School, January 2012

In January, 2012, the City Lit teaching artists entered Ms. Kreydich's K-3rd grade special education classroom and helped her students put on a performace of "The Story of Ferdinand."

The program goals, developed in collaboration with the teacher, were as follows:

- Help the students develop a cognitive understanding of the text, "The Story of Ferdinand," and the causes and effects within the story.

- Help students understand and utilize play, art, and imagination to connect to learning.

- Have the students develop and understanding of the infused artistry in themselves.

- Create an original interpretation and performance of "The Story of Ferdinand "

The teaching artists taught the students a few theater games for warm-up each day, warming up "our voices and our bodies," helped them design costumes for the performance, and helped them rehearse for a guided dramatic play version of the book. The culmination was a successful in-class performance!
